Baucus Proposes Haiti Donation Exemption For '09 Taxes
By
Senate Finance Committee Chairman Max Baucus proposed legislation Wednesday that would let Americans claim Haiti-related donations made before March 1 on their 2009 tax returns.
The legislation is similar to a bill passed after the 2004 Indian Ocean tsunami, Baucus said.
"This is simple legislation that would make a big impact. It will make it a little easier for Americans to contribute to the victims of the Haiti disaster," Baucus said. "[T]he relief and rebuilding effort in Haiti will require billions. And this legislation is an additional incentive for Americans to contribute to that effort."
