Things You Should Read Now

By Ta-Nehisi Coates

I'm a little upset that Nadya Labi's incredible feature for The New Yorker "The Hitman's Tale" is behind a paywall. I'm even more upset that I didn't read it the week it was out and urge you guys to grab the magazine. The story takes through the life of young man who goes from honor's student to professional hitman.

As gripping as the reporting is, what really makes the piece excel is the way it graduates to a second level. In the end we don't just get the story of a hitman--we get the story of one his ancillary victims, and the hitman's flailing attempt at some measure of redemption. Read it. It's a beautiful work of journalism.
