Mercedes-Benz Brings Inspiration From Aspen to TheAtlantic.com

By Jay Lauf

Mercedes-Benz, long-time underwriter of our collaboration with The Aspen Institute - Aspen Ideas Festival- returns this week with "Inspiration from Aspen."  A camera crew will roam the Aspen Institute campus capturing some of the in-the-moment thoughts of Festival-goers and speakers about what is inspiring them at the Festival. In conjunction with Mercedes-Benz, we'll record some of the most interesting musings from behind-the-scenes and offer them up in video units you'll find running throughout our Ideas Special Report beginning Friday, July 1. In my experience, it's not just the provocative panel discussions, entertaining evening sessions, or other programming that leaves one inspired, but also the campus conversations spurred by what we hear and see on-stage.  This will bring a taste of that to you.  Last year, we heard from the likes of Craig Newmark, Jim Marggraff, Senator Mike Johnston, and Sonya Pryor-Jones.

You can follow the rest of the conversation emanating from the Festival with the #AspenIdeas Twitter feed on the Ideas Special Report.

The Aspen Institute and The Atlantic are both institutions dedicated to the exploration of ideas.  In fact, in the original mission statement of our magazine - written back in 1857 - our founders declared The Atlantic would be a vehicle for exploring "The American idea".  Mercedes-Benz is an organization that values the exploration and proliferation of ideas that move society forward, which explains their level of involvement in one of our most important franchises.  I think you'll enjoy a glimpse into how a program like Aspen Ideas Festival can inspire.  And if you like what you see, I hope you'll share these glimpses with others.
