Talk to Me Like I'm Stupid: Hermeneutics

Hermeneutics is a word that repeatedly pops up in my conversations with people who are smarter than me. And now it's started popping up in comments. I've looked around for awhile trying to understand what the term means. The dictionary definition isn't much help.

And so I appeal to the Horde. Someone please explain Hermeneutics. If you don't know, please don't post. As always, there's nothing wrong sitting back and watching.
