"CityLab: Making L.A." Explores Los Angeles Culture and Industry, September 29

Washington, D.C. and New York, N.Y. (August 25, 2014)—Los Angeles’ cultural and industry leaders will convene for “CityLab: Making L.A.,” an event bringing together fashion, cuisine, and design on Monday, September 29, at 7:30PM at The Theatre at Ace Hotel. As part of the CityLab summit on urban issues and ideas presented by the Aspen Institute, The Atlantic, and Bloomberg Philanthropies, “CityLab: Making L.A.” will feature Los Angeles Mayor Eric Garcetti and famed chef and entrepreneur Roy Choi, whose food truck inspired the film Chef. Tickets to the program, which start at $50 ($20 for students), are available now at The Theatre at Ace Hotel.

“CityLab: Making L.A.,” presented with local partner Los Angeles Magazine, will spotlight the next generation of Angelenos putting their city on the map. In addition to Mayor Garcetti and Chef Choi, the evening will feature Caruso Affiliated Founder and CEO Rick Caruso in conversation with Los Angeles County Museum of Art Executive Director Michael Govan on the transformative power of place-making and design. Paige Denim Founder and CEO Paige Adams-Geller, and Golden Road Brewery Founder and CEO Meg Gill will also discuss what it takes to build a brand in L.A. Editors from The Atlantic and Los Angeles Magazine will moderate conversations throughout the evening.

“CityLab: Making L.A.” is part of the second annual “CityLab: Urban Solutions to Global Challenges,” a multiday summit September 29-30 in Los Angeles focused on ideas and solutions for global cities. CityLab, presented by the Aspen Institute, The Atlantic, and Bloomberg Philanthropies, brings together the people who are creating the cities of the future—practitioners, planners, architects, artists, economists, urban scholars, and other civic leaders—to discuss emerging trends and share best practices for common challenges. The event will span multiple venues in LA and will incorporate field trips to iconic city landmarks—from the LA River to downtown Hollywood—that serve as urban case studies.
