Atlantic Senior Editor Christopher Orr Named Film Critic for TheAtlantic.com

Washington, D.C. -- Atlantic senior editor Christopher Orr has been named the principal film critic for TheAtlantic.com, it was announced today by Bob Cohn, editor of Atlantic Digital. In his expanded role, Orr will contribute weekly movie reviews, along with other content, to the website. He will also continue to work as a senior editor for the magazine. Posted to the Web site today is Orr's review of The Avengers.

"Chris brings intelligence, curiosity, and humor to everything he does," said Cohn. "That, combined with his love of movies and his deep experience as a film reviewer, makes him a great addition to the growing roster of talent on the Entertainment channel of TheAtlantic.com."

Orr, who worked for The Atlantic in 2004, rejoined the magazine in 2010. Among his duties for the magazine, he edits James Parker's entertainment column, which was named a finalist for a National Magazine Award this year. Orr also commissioned and edited "Our Man in Kandahar" by Matthieu Aikins, which tells the story of a possible mass murder by an American ally in Afghanistan. That piece was also named a 2012 National Magazine Award finalist. 

In addition to his work for The Atlantic, Orr has written on film for The New Republic, L.A. Weekly, Salon, The New York Sun, and others. He has also worked as an editor at Mother Jones, U.S. News and World Report, The Washington Post, and The New Republic.
