Tony Dillingham, of Knoxville, Tenn., writes: "As a male, I can only express this in sexist terms, so please forgive me. This may well occur among females, but if it does it's probably different enough to warrant its own separate word. The definition is: The moment of awkward masculinity when a you pull up to a red light, look at the driver of the car next to you to see if it's a hot chick, and realize that the driver of the other car is a guy looking back to see if you're a hot chick.

"Sorry, I'm usually quite sensitive and concise, but I had to get that out."

You are correct--

Thanks for acknowledging my first foray into Word Fugitives---I trust it cut the mustard?

Topic: That awkward male moment..... (1 of 1), Read 25 times
Conf: Word Fugitives, with Barbara Wallraff

Just checked the 10 most wanted new words and had a thought for
#1....that awkward masculine moment when a man gets caught looking at
another man whom he had hoped would be a hot chick.

Consider combining "flummoxed" and "immasculated" into FLUMMASCULATED or
FLUMMOXULATED.

Respectfully submitted,

Jean McEvoy
