Joe Panko, of Tulsa, Oklahoma, writes: "Many companies require their employees to wear a photo-ID badge at work. What should one call it on a day when someone wears the same shirt that they are wearing in their badge photo? They look exactly like the picture on their badge. Is there a word for the event? In Chaos theory, when structures repeat themselves at different scales (such as in the Mandelbrot set, clouds, and so forth,) the phenomena is referred to as being self-similar. Admittedly, this is something of a cop-out by mathematicians, and a good word for this might enter the scientific lexicon, in addition to being used for the ID badge example above.
