Marlon Brando and Tennessee Williams

Marlon Brando is sent up to Cape Cod to read the part of Stanley Kowalski in A Streetcar Named Desire for Tennessee Wiliams's approval. First he fixes the nonfunctioning electricity and plumbing, then he auditions. His performance is stellar in every role. "First Encounters," Atlantic Monthly, July 1994. -- Edward Sorel, from Unauthorized Portraits (1997)
