Pope wades into U.S. politics: Francis, en route to Italy, was asked by a reporter about his views on Donald Trump. His reply: “A person who thinks only about building walls, wherever they may be, and not building bridges, is not Christian.” In his response, Trump said it was “disgraceful” for a religious person to question someone’s faith:

If and when the Vatican is attacked by ISIS, which as everyone knows is ISIS’s ultimate trophy, I can promise you that the Pope would have only wished and prayed that Donald Trump would have been President because this would not have happened. ISIS would have been eradicated unlike what is happening now with our all talk, no action politicians.

Pope appears to support limited contraception use in Zika cases: In response to another question, Francis called the use of contraceptives a “lesser of two evils” compared to the birth defects associated with the virus that is sweeping Latin America. The World Health Organization has called the virus and the birth defects a global health crisis. Update: More here

Was Lech Walesa a paid Communist informant?: That’s the claim being made by new documents unearthed by Poland’s National Remembrance Institute. The head of the institute says the documents appear to be authentic. Walesa has long denied he was an informer, and today suggested the papers are fake.
