Courtesy of ABC News, here is some pretty amazing footage. If you believe it, Martin's killing has very little to do with Stand Your Ground. Zimmerman is basically claiming Martin saw him, approached, and with no provocation, punched him in the face, repeatedly rammed his head into the concrete, verbally threatened his life, and then reached for his gun in an attempt to make that threat good.
I didn't know Trayvon Martin. Maybe that's exactly how it happened. I don't have much problem believing the two really did get into a fight, one in which Martin was prevailing. But the notion that teenager, with no history of violence, would effectively attempt to injure and then kill someone, without any real provocation strikes me as much less likely.
It's also a direct contradiction to Martin's girlfriend who was on the phone with him at the time.
I would love to see the raw tape.
