Today marks the 55th anniversary of the day Rosa Parks refused to give up her seat on a Montgomery, Alabama bus. Parks's civil disobedience began a city wide bus boycott, making her a national symbol for the Civil Rights Movement. Parks was, of course, just one of many African American women involved in the fight against racism and discrimination.
