What...

...the fuck:

Shirley Sherrod's story in her now famous speech about the lynching of a relative is not true. The veracity and credibility of the onetime Agriculture Department bureaucrat at the center of the explosive controversy between the NAACP and conservative media activist Andrew Breitbart is now directly under challenge.

I'm up here in the mountains, and getting the news rather late. Radley Balko dispenses with this stupidity in his typical, and essential, fashion.

The the last week has gone as follows: Shirley Sherrod, a woman whose family was terrorized by the Klan, who refused to let that experience mark her with hate, is smeared as a racist, told to pull over to the side of the road and tender her resignation via Blackberry. Upon discovering that Shirley Sherrod is not a racist, the crowd is then smeared as racist. This lie is promptly debunked. At which point, we are told that because Shirley Sherrod's relative was not actually lynched.

Next--the Shirley Sherrod Whitey tape revealed.

UPDATE: The more I think about this, the more I am faced with the kind of question I feel naive and stupid for asking--What kind of human being writes a 4,000 word article to prove that someone's long-dead relative wasn't lynched because he was beaten to death? Callousness is scary. Stupidity is scary. When you combine the two....I mean seriously, What the fuck? It's the worst of everything.
