The security guard who called the police on a homeless on a man who was sleeping at a community center has come to a really familiar conclusion:
"I regret making the call. I should have let him sleep. It spiraled out of control," said Trappler.
The Daily News is reporting that the guy was both drunk and asleep. I really feel for Trappler. Calling the cops, who presumably have more training and more authority, was exactly the right thing to do. But what's amazing about the video is that the only training the cops actually display is the ability to swiftly mete out violence. I can grab ten dudes off the block to do that. Let's give them pensions, too.
There's some sense in the comments on the earlier post that, somehow, the officers were "right" to dispense a beat-down because the man didn't immediately comply. This view reflects the idea that police are basically ass-kickers waiting on call. The fact the officers lied in their reports puts the lie to this notion.
