Special Report: How Genius Works On the heels of his acclaimed revamping of the Volkswagen Beetle, Mays joined Ford in the late 1990s and turned heads with energetic re-imaginations of icons like the Mustang and Thunderbird. Now, as the company's chief designer, he's unveiling its new concept for the sport utility vehicle, the Vertrek. Here he describes how he and his designers take an idea from drawing board to test track.
