Partners

Sixteen of this puzzle's clue answers are to be paired up, in each case with one extra linking letter between them, for entry in the grid as eight new words. The locations of these eight partnerships must be deduced with the help of the remaining entries, which should be entered normally. If there were heavy bars to show where entries begin and end, they would not be symmetrically located. Clues for the Partners are given in mixed order. By entering each pair's linking letter on the blank preceding the clue for its second portion and then reading downward, you'll see what holds the partnerships together. Clue answers include three capitalized words and one foreign word. One of the newly formed partnerships is capitalized, and the answer to clue i is a variant spelling.
