gray-and-white cat in the Chisinau suburb of Pruncul apparently provided more than cuddly comfort to the inmates of a local jail.

Prison workers apprehended the cat late last week after they noticed it wearing a suspicious purple collar.

In a video posted to the Department of Prisons website, officials can be seen lightly caressing the animal as they carefully untie two polyurethane bags wrapped around its neck. They cut open the bags to find a green "herbal" substance with "the distinct odor of marijuana."

Investigators have concluded that the cat was outfitted with the collar outside the internment facility and sent to deliver its contents to inmates through a small hole.

Although this foxy feline was caught, the effort to hide the banned substance is a marked improvement over an attempt in June in Russia's northern republic of Komi to smuggle cell phones and chargers into a prison.

According to The Moscow Times, the electronic contraband was taped to a cat's back before it was sent over a penitentiary fence—only to be spotted by prison guards.
