Above, a worker packages cigars at the H. Upmann cigar factory during the 13th annual Cigar Festival in Havana, Cuba, on Thursday, February 24, 2011. Cigar enthusiasts from around the world flocked to Cuba during the last week of February, visiting tobacco plantations and cigar factories and sampling new kinds of cigars.

According to Cubans: The Ultimate Cigars, by Wil Mara, the world-famous H. Upmann brand was started by two German brothers, Herman and August Upmann, in 1844, when the brothers opened a cigar store in Havana. The company makes dozens of varieties of cigars in Cuba, some handmade, others machine-made.
