The Most Realistic Addicts on TV

Editor's Note: From Married ... With Children's slovenly, beer-sipping Al Bundy to heroin-using Bubbles, who walks the mean streets of Baltimore on the decidedly less comedicĀ The Wire, there hasn't been a shortage of addicts portrayed on television. Some of them serve as jumping off points for jokes and punchlines, while others are strictly dramatic. Regardless of how a series' writers decide to use their characters to advance a story, all of them can teach us something about dealing with addiction and its many consequences.
