The Perennial Plate, a series about sustainable eating created by Daniel Klein and Mirra Fine, takes a look at the wealth of food that grocery stores throw out every day. In this episode, they go dumpster diving with a man who has been getting most of his family's food from the local grocery store's dumpsters for the past year and a half. Klein ends the episode by whipping up a batch of French toast with bananas -- created entirely with salvaged ingredients.

Klein talks about creating the epic, two-year series in an interview here, and you can watch more episodes of the series here.
