But as we catch up with our quasi-collegiate overlords hanging out in the Plum Pit we find Jamie believes the way clear to Alex, now that the competition has been written out. Unfortunately Alex has fallen for Liam, who busses tables at the Plum Pit and is unfortunately from the Cave, which is the wrong side of the Cove, where the world is ruled not by the quasi-collegiate but rather by adults who are nominally poor and have birthed children who make poverty look hot.
But nerdy Kenneth also pines after Alex and joins the football team to impress her. This fails. As does his attempt to impress Alex by explaining why his friend Liam is a really great guy. A flummoxed Kenneth is at wit's end. That is until he slips on a rock, accidentally killing Alex's would-be rapist with a tire iron, and promptly loses his virginity to her.
And at this point we hear "Last Year" in the background. And "Last Year" is is an awesome song by Best Coast, a band that is better than the shitty show that is going to make them (more) famous.
Will Kenneth's murderous past be uncovered? Will Liam pound him to horse meat having discovered his betrayal? Is vaguely Hispanic guy really dead? And will Best Coast ever get a better show?
This fall on the CW. It's going down at The Cove.
