Track of the Day: 'Berlin'

By Brendan Hasenstab

Past Tracks Hortlax Cobra is a rather odd name, but it makes sense once you know that the Cobra in question is John Eriksson, the drummer for Stockholm's Peter, Bjorn & John. He grew up in Hortlax, a small town in the Piteå region of Northern Sweden. What we've got here is a propulsive, electronic ode to romantic longing. In fact, "I wanna see you tonight" is chanted again and again in the chorus. But this is clearly the kind of romantic longing (and urgency) that borders on frenzy. With a sing-song melody, and a multi-layered rhythm track, John has a strong single on his hands. And since it appears on the Ingrid imprint—the new record label run by Lykke Li, members of PB&J, and some of the guys in Miike Snow, among others—expect good things from John's debut LP, Night Shift, out in early June.
