Track of the Day: '17 Days'

By Jay Ferguson

Past TracksYou know those concerts that all your friends attend, those ones that your friends then take every opportunity to remind you that you should have gone each time one of that particular artist's songs drifts in to your conversation space? Prince is that particular artist for me. I really should have gone to see him this past year. Foolish, I know. The extra-crushing factor is that he was apparently playing this lesser known, but no less worthy, B-side to the infinitely more well know A-side, "When Doves Cry." That he could toss such top-drawer material on to the flipside of a 7-inch 45 is a testament to his prolificacy during this insanely fertile time in his career. He could squeeze more melodies and riffs out of two repeated chords than anyone else in the business. And then dance all over them.
