The Story Behind the Iconic 'Keep Calm and Carry On' Poster

By Kasia Cieplak-Mayr von Baldegg

The British WWII propaganda poster languished in obscurity for decades before it resurfaced in Barter Books in 2000. Although it was printed in 1939, it was never officially distributed -- it was reserved for a time of extreme crisis. In this short documentary, the bookstore presents a brief history of the famous design.

On their site, Barter Books sells all kinds of merchandise printed with the design, and even an iPhone app that allows users to create their own twist on the slogan.
