Fauna: BBC's 'Life' Remixed With Pitchfork's Greatest Hits

By Kasia Cieplak-Mayr von Baldegg

Tobi Totschlag's mashups do what hipsters have done in the privacy of their own homes for years: put a nature show on mute and crank up Björk, Radiohead, Lykke Li, and other favorites. Totschlag takes special care to create a rapport between sound and image, however, and the results are mesmerizing. Kathleen Flood at the Creators Project discusses the series with Totschlag, who explains, "listening to music while watching [BBC's Life] really allows you to concentrate on the beauty and poetry of it all, more than if you’re distracted by a commentator." Check out some of his mashups below.

Coral Reef vs. Pink Floyd, Devendra Banhart and Röyksopp

Spider Crabs vs. Panda Bear

Ibex vs. Radiohead

Starfish and Jellyfish vs. Lykke Li and Björk

Hunting Komodo Dragons vs. Radiohead and Interpol

Hunting Sail Fish vs. Jamie XX
