Track of the Day: 'Default'

By Brendan Hasenstab

Past TracksNot quite a year ago, I reviewed a song called "WOR" by a young band from Scotland, by way of East London, named Django Django. That track reminded me of the joyous oddity that was The Beta Band, with a faster metabolism. Fast-forward to 2012 and Django Django is back with a formal debut album, and it's a cracker! The lead single, "Default" has all the nervy strumming and primal stomp of earlier efforts, and yes, the malfunctioning sci-fi robot synth presets are back, too. But overall, the songwriting has matured and what we get is a proper single. Yes, the edges are slightly bent, but that's exactly what they were aiming for.
