Georges Méliès's 1902 Classic, 'A Trip to the Moon'

The iconic sci-fi short went on to inspire countless films, including Martin Scorsese's Hugo. A Trip to the Moon is "the artistic heart" of Scorsese's film, Govindini Murty writes in "From Méliès to Montparnasse, a Cultural Cheat Sheet for 'Hugo'." Courtesy of the Internet Archive, this excerpt follows the space travelers as they land on the Moon and explore its fantastical landscapes. 

A Trip to the Moon was recently restored and colorized to go with a new album by the French electronic music group AIR. They've made short excerpts from the colorized version available on YouTube:
