Track of the Day: 'Little Talks'

By Brendan Hasenstab

Past TracksIceland's Of Monsters and Men is striding into 2012 with a single that will resonate with a wide swath of indie-music fans. The Icelandic six-piece has nailed the vibe of early records from Stockholm's Shout Out Louds, but while that band was a bit more neurotic, Of Monsters and Men can slot in nicely in the slipstream behind The Arcade Fire and Mumford and Sons. It's an upbeat tune with "Hey! Hey! Hey!" being the first three lines of lyrics. (Sorry Ramones fans, it's not that sort of number.) But with sharp male-female lead vocals, cheerful trumpet blasts, and plenty of acoustic guitars strumming in the undercarriage, it will carry you right along.
