While January is a relatively slow time of year for music, The Big Pink have recently unleashed their newest album, entitled Future This. Sounds like a vague threat of some sort, doesn't it? And that would be in keeping with the posture of the band's debut record, A Brief History of Love. But this sophomore album opens with the distorted bombast of "Stay Gold," and quickly segues to this Laurie Anderson-sampling sing-along, which is more indicative of the rest of this record. Her jaunty "O Superman" forms
the chassis of this track, but The Big Pink turn it into a more wistful ode to the idea that there is no one to pick you up if you fall, aside from
yourself. But that's wrapped up in the lyrics; the song itself features the vaguely hip-hop beats and the sort of soaring chorus these guys do better
than anyone in the modern indie scene.
