The men's college basketball season tips off this week, highlighted by a Veterans Day matchup that would make Maverick and Goose proud. Fans of the sport have long complained about college basketball's "soft" opening, which has paled in comparison with the spectacle of baseball's opening day, the NFL's Thursday night kickoff game, or the first Saturday of major college football.

But this year college hoops has put together an over-the-top opening week game that might top them all and could become a yearly tradition.
