Morning Coffee

William Onyeabor shouting from home. There's something utterly meta about listening to a Nigerian cat do funk or soul. Much of American music exhibits a heavy African influence, indeed it's pretty hard to imagine American music without Africa. So it's interesting to see this creole music return from the diaspora to then be reinterpreted by one of its originators.

It's a beautiful song, nonetheless. The first time I heard this I was imbibing on North Side at the Violet Hour. I love Chicago. All the cool cocktail joints in New York require you calling at a special time to get on the list. Though that was a couple of years ago. The Violet Hour might be high-post by now.
