Track of the Day: 'Still Life'

By Brendan Hasenstab

Past TracksThe Horrors are back with album No. 3, and it presents a new evolution in the band's sound, toward a bigger, more anthemic pop sensibility. While Primary Colours owed a tremendous debt to My Bloody Valentine's Loveless, (and was good enough to prompt Trent Reznor to invite the band to open a run of shows on Nine Inch Nails' farewell tour) this record shows they've dug deeper into their influences, landing in, say, 1985. This track could easily have ended up on the soundtrack to almost any John Hughes film of the era. It's the sound of a band working its way toward the big-time, without compromise.
