The polls are closed, and it's now official:
1book140 will be reading
Kafka on the Shore by Haruki Murakami in July. The voting for our next selection was exciting this time around: For the first few days after the polls opened, it looked like the race was between
Right Ho, Jeeves by P.G. Wodehouse and
Juliet, Naked by Nick Hornby. But this morning Murakami's Facebook
page posted the link and encouraged fans to vote, which caused a surge in votes for
Kafka on the Shore.
In the end,
Kafka got 56.76 percent of the vote, followed by
Juliet, Naked with 15.59 percent,
Right Ho, Jeeves with 14.22 percent,
State of Wonder by Ann Patchett with 7.14 percent, and
The Help by Kathryn Stockett with 6.28 percent.
Discussion starts on Tuesday, July 5th, so
buy the book and get started reading over the long holiday weekend. And stay tuned for a full discussion schedule, as well as a wrap-up of our inaugural month's discussion of
The Blind Assassin.
