LeBron James left his native Ohio to win a championship with the Miami Heat. When the Dallas Mavericks defeated the Heat in the NBA finals, many Cleveland Cavaliers fans were positively gleeful, and Governor Kasich was quick to capitalize. His proclamation praised the Mavericks for their loyalty and integrity, and in a pointed dig at James, lauded Mavs MVP Dirk Nowitzki for "remaining loyal to the team, city, and fans" with whom he had played his entire career.
So today, as millions of Mavericks fans bask in their honorary citizenship in the Buckeye State, we take a look at some other distinguished honorary Ohioans through the years.
