It's been 30 years since Jerry Seinfeld's first stand-up appearance on The Tonight Show with Johnny Carson, and to mark the occasion a new website launched today that will highlight the best routines from the comedian's career. Three clips will be posted each day, and will remain available for only 24 hours before being replaced by a trio of new videos. According to Deadline, Seinfeld will personally select each bit that is featured on the site.
Seinfeld also posted a note explaining why he started the endeavor:
When I was ten years old, I started watching stand up comedians on TV. I fell in love with them and I'm just as fascinated with stand up comedy today...
...Somewhere out there are ten year olds just waiting to get hooked on this strange pursuit. This is for them. I'm just hoping somehow it will keep this silliness going.
Today's three clips include that first Tonight Show appearance, titled "The Fattest Man in the World." Unfortunately, the videos on the site are not embeddable—what's the deal with that?—but a YouTube search does surface a poorer quality version of the appearance:
