In just a few hours, the federal government could very well shut down. Republican and Democratic negotiators worked through the night on Thursday looking for an agreement but came up emptyhanded. At this point, it's not even clear what they're arguing about: Democrats say it's all about Title X funding for women's health services (aka, money for Planned Parenthood), while Republicans say the policy issues are basically settled and that the debate is about overall spending levels.

Whether you're a federal employee waiting "on pins and needles" to see if you'll be going to work on Monday or just a citizen wondering how we got into this mess, here's a shutdown-themed playlist:
