Battle: Los Angeles comes out Friday, and the City of Angels is once again poised to face brutal cinematic destruction. Patricia Beauchamp wonders why the city is so often hosting the apocalypse, and so rarely the backdrop for the romance. Furthermore, its east coast counterpart, New York City, is running rampant with love. She writes, "With so many love stories set in Manhattan, and so few in California, filmmakers appear to be sending a message—New York is the place to fall in love, but L.A. is the place to die."
