I try to cast my ears and eyes far and wide for my Track of the Day choices, but sometimes you can't ignore the goodness in your own backyard. Or a few blocks from my own backyard, where this impossibly peppy clip for "Getcha Good" by Halifax artist Jenn Grant was filmed, on the streets of the city's North End.
Grant's previous album Echoes wasn't exactly somber, but its layered moods sound positively funereal compared to the snap and crackle pop on her latest release, Honeymoon Punch. "Getcha Good," the album's first single, is a flagship example of her fresh coat of zest, fueled by love (fiance Daniel Ledwell, who produced the record, appears here with his trumpet), and newfound artistic freedom.
I'll admit it, I'm a sucker for a sweet voice, a ginger mane and some fancy footwork--probably due to early childhood exposure to Ann-Margret in Viva Las Vegas--and Grant delivers on all fronts.
