At a time the word "epic" was reserved for Greek odysseys and medieval wars. Nowadays it is relegated to fanciful snowboard maneuvers and comical YouTube videos. Perseus surely won't lose any sleep over the change, but it is unfortunate that "epic" no longer connotes that sense of something "epochal".
For that reason, I won't be tempted to use the word to define Daft Punk's Tron Legacy soundtrack, even though it still fits the original meaning through moments of grandiose majesty intermixed with brittle, deep bass, ambience that alternate and grow into a narrative unto itself.
The single "Derezzed" rebuilds Daft Punk's French House background from a more serious, cinematic vein, while other tracks blend a combination of Krautrock-like minimalism, operatic orchestration, and electronic horror disco. All of it easily listenable independent of what the movie has to offer.
