Track of the Day: 'Windstorm'

By Brendan Hasenstab

Past TracksOn their second album, New York's School of Seven Bells amps up their rhythms while leaving their dream-pop guitars and Technicolor synth washes in place. The exotic harmonies from twin sisters Alejandra and Claudia Deheza are still the star of the show, but while the band's debut largely avoided the club, a handful of tracks from this work would be right at home there.

Lots of mystical imagery floats by in the group's lyrics. Can't really pretend I know how to interpret lines like: "When the fire's burning from sky to ground/Swing my weight around/Begin the windstorm." But literal truth is not what this band shoots for. They're about texture and feel. Preserving a vivid dream on tape. And what a strange dream it was, as you'll see in the video clip below.
