For the Horde

By Ta-Nehisi Coates

Some of the comments on the Arcade Fire/John Legend thread were so funny, I had to bring them up. Those of you with some knowledge of the tribesmen of the Eurasian steppes will get it:

Here:

Hulagu says John Legend messed up the vocals. It is a really bad opening, but gets better as the song goes on.

Kublai says ?uestlove was good with the drums, very strong like Tengri's thunder, but overpowers the rest of the instrumentation.

Chenggis says this is whippersnapper music, that true music is the whistle of an arrow as it passes by your ear, the clang of the sword on the shield, and the rhythm of the hooves of a horde on the move.

Here:

Subutai is not impressed and thinks that John Legend and Adam Levine should form a supergroup of people whose voices have no soul--and he will then set fire to this group with a thousand archers upon swift steeds. Moderate Flag

And here:

Raijin says that ?uestlove's left hand ghost notes are supremely tasty, and that is enough for him.
