7 Mixes Worth Listening to This Week

By Hua Hsu

-It's been a long time coming for the rehabilitation of all things boogie-synth-slap bass, and Dam-Funk is the undisputed master. Another quality set of 1980s grown folks funk courtesy TTL/EVR. (stream)

-The Swedish duo Korallreven has been following up a string of top shelf seven-inches with some great, washed-out mixes of everything from Primal Scream to Justin Bieber. I linked to one here a couple months back and this one (courtesy GvsB) is called "A Dream By Korallreven For Korallreven In Collaboration With Korallreven For Korallreven." So there you go. (stream)

-Not a mix, but Dollar Bin Jams surveyed Soundcloud and offers some great, underexposed disco and funk edits. (stream)

-Kevin Barnes of of Montreal stitches together an exclusive mix "pour telerama-radio." Nothing shocking here, though the inclusion of The Time makes sense, oddly. (DL)

-To take the edge off, a mix of mellow, at times trippy piano music (Satie, Aphex Twin, etc.) by Rickyeatacid posted at Meatskull. (DL)

-And speaking of mellow: Bennington's finest, Mountain Man, gets together some of their favorite tunes for Allez-Allez, including Arthur Russell's stunning "A Little Lost." (stream/DL)

-A bit of self-promotion: my first show back at WVKR. Apologies for the botched levels, etc.
