Here's his explanation for why Star Trek made the list:

Star Trek fans insist that their favorite show changed the world. Well... that might be going too far. The first interracial kiss? That would have been great, except they were under alien mind control. (So the message was clear: to kiss someone of a different race, you would need to be out of your mind.) The innovation of a black African woman as a senior officer? Sure, if you think a glorified telephone receptionist is groundbreaking. The show that invented the mobile phone and the microwave oven? Huh? No, that was the work of scientists and engineers. This was just a TV show.
