Hollywood's go-to political screenwriter Aaron Sorkin (The West Wing, The American President, All the President's Men, the upcoming Facebook movie, The Social Network) will make his feature film directing debut with an adaptation of Andrew Young's The Politician, the tell-all chronicling John Edwards' presidential promise and scandalous demise. The Washington Post breaks down the book's major players and what actors should play them in the film, suggesting Tom Cruise portray the former senator:
They've both got smiles that flash brighter than 1,000 halogen lamps. And for Cruise, this would present the kind of acting challenge he hasn't tackled in a while. If he could master that Carolina drawl and Edwards' affable smarminess, maybe he'd even earn another Academy Award nomination.
