Track of the Day: 'Generals'

Past Tracks

What do you get when you start with the Black Keys, subtract the manly vocals, add in Cat Power sound-alike Laura Burhenn as lead singer, and multiply the total result by half a unit of fed-up hostility? Probably something resembling this thumping title track from the Mynabirds' second album. "Get your war paint on," Burhenn snarls over a buzzing bass-drum thump that sounds like it's on loan from the Led Zeppelin IV warehouse. Other cuts from the Omaha-based outfit's June release are considerably cuter than this one, but Burhenn's battle anthem has a slow stomp that might make you want to heed her orders.
