Track of the Day: 'Power & Control'

Past Tracks

Marina and the Diamonds has returned from a brief break with a slightly odd concept album entitled Electra Heart. All the songs on the album are told from the perspective of a character bearing that name who, if truth be told, seems to enjoy being shallow and more than a bit mean. Even if I don't buy the overarching failed-American-dream concept behind the record, this track is a true pop gem. Marina's voice sparkles; the chorus is catchy enough that it bears repeating four times, and the lyrics are dead-on. As a bit of a bonus, the video is essentially the sort of thing Madonna used to crank out with apparent ease. Highly recommended.
