President Obama decided yesterday not to release the gruesome death photos of Osama Bin Laden. Explained White House press secretary Jay Carney: "These are graphic photographs of someone who was shot in the head. It is not in our national security interest to allow those images…to become icons to rally opinion against the United States." Fair enough, but as Jon Stewart pointed out on last night's Daily Show, America transmits head wound imagery to the country and the world on a nightly basis.
"From 8 p.m. on every show on television we watch begins with an internal tracking shot of a wound above someone's left eye, pulling out only to reveal half a hooker in a dumpster discovered by a child on a bicycle. You know what we call it? Prime time."
