Eleanor Barkhorn is an associate editor at The Atlantic, where she edits the Entertainment channel. She is a former producer for the Food channel. Before coming to The Atlantic, she was a reporter at the Delta Democrat Times in Greenville, Mississippi. She graduated from Princeton University, where she majored in American literature and wrote her senior thesis about Oprah's Book Club. For her first two years out of college, she taught high school English with the Teach For America program.

17 Romantic Comedies That Are Actually Neither

In honor of The Switch--a movie that opens this weekend, about a man who tricks a woman into having his baby--New York Magazine's Vulture blog has a list of other romantic comedies that are actually very, very dark.

It features the classics Breakfast at Tiffany's, Sleepless in Seattle, and While You Were Sleeping, along with pithy explanations for why each film makes the list. The best one is for The Graduate, Dustin Hoffman's iconic film about restlessness and the perils of dating an older woman:

Loafer has sex with future girlfriend's depressed mother, barricades panicked civilians inside church.
