Apologies

There have been a few technical hiccups today. We seem to have survived - but somewhat shakily - a DOS attack. But nothing can stop Typepad's gremlins, which have been disrupting and blocking the blog all day - erasing posts, jamming completely for long and sporadic periods of time, adding errors into the text, and on and on. Most frustrating. If you wonder why we couldn't post for a half hour at times, it was  the new Typepad.
