A reader writes:

Seems to me this sorry episode could serve as a cautionary tale to other bloggers working in hostile ideological territory: call your IT department, and have them build a widget that posts your traffic numbers at the bottom of your column, week to week or day to day. Make the data public, save the monthly numbers to excel reports, and expose future attempts at sanitizing content towards ideological purity into the open. In other words, shine a little light. These editors are such backwards dinosaurs they won't even understand what you're doing until the time comes to fudge up a reason.
